At the Women’s Breakfast on Saturday, November 14, Tim Crist will discuss the research discoveries behind his book, New Englanders in a New Land, published by Rutgers University Press. In the book, Tim describes the way Congregationalists settled Newark in the 17th century and how they managed relationships with Native Americans and handled the question of slavery.
Reviewers have commended Tim’s “impressive, pioneering research” and called the book “absorbing” in the way he “skillfully underscores the complexity of New Jersey’s origins by demonstrating how Newark’s leaders challenged the proprietary system in their quest to expand the New England model of godly authority and town self-government.”
